Children have a thrilling time
MUSIC and singing, imag inative play, outdoor and free play, art and craft, and plenty of outings, are just some of the thrilling activi ties on offer at the Slaid- burn and District Play group. Young children have the
opportunity to participate in new experiences and develop and increase their social skills by attending
the Monday and Friday morning sessions held at The Chapel, in the village green. Mums and dads living in
the rural area can also ben efit from playgroup as they can meet other local fami lies and relax and talk in a friendly environment. No child is too young to
attend as staff at the self- funded organisation cater
for youngsters aged between 0 and five. Anyone interested in
attending the sessions is asked to contact Mrs Helen Wallbank on 01200 446665. Our picture shows young

Cement’s operation at its Ribblesdale Works, between Clitheroe and Chat- burn, is very damaging to the environ ment and to the health of local people. They will see a grim irony in the compa ny’s support for World Environment Day, which promotes the benefits of clean air, land and water. But Castle Cement stands by its
record on the environment, claiming it does all it can-to minimise the effects of an essential industrial process, while also investing heavily in schemes that actual ly improve the physical environment. Tony Allan, production director for
Castle Cement, said: "A clean, healthy environment means a better quality of life and the company strives to strike a balance between our need for the materi als that sustain our society and the need to protect our environment. "This year's World Environment Day
concentrates on the ways that we should improve the quality of our air and water and the ways that we should reduce energy and waste. Castle Cement is proud of its achievement in both of these areas which are highlighted below." O Improving air - Castle Cement
