Five to watch in the search for Euro 2004 glory!
Thierry Henry (France)
IF professional football is an art then Thierry Henry has become the Van Gogh of his trade. The French international may not have won
FIFA's World Player of the Year award, but his performances over the last 12 months have eclipsed every other star on the planet. Henry is not simply a devastating striker, he

is a player of mesmerising skill and outstanding vision, and a forward who combines individual brilliance with selfless team performances. At the age of 26, Henry already has World

Cup and European Championship medals, and his international goal ratio is just under one strike every two games.
Pave! Nedved (Czech Republic)
THE Czech Republic may not be the most fashionable of footballing nations, but Pavel Nedved knows he has come closer to winning the European Championship than any England player.
Seventeen minutes separated the midfielder from glory at Wembley in 1996
when the Czechs surprised everyone by reaching the final, but Germany's golden goal left a vacancy for an international triumph on Nedved's CV. However, he is not short of other accolades having been named European Footballer of the Year in 2003 after helping Juventus to the Champions League
final, which he missed through suspension. Few other players in Europe possess the all-round talent which has

transformed him into a left-sided midfielder that the English would die for, and Sven-Goran Eriksson is a known admirer.
Alessandro Nesta (Italy) TOP-CLASS centre-backs roll out of Italy on a regular basis, but Alessandro
Nesta is one of a new breed who combine clinical defending with genuine elegance on the ball. Nesta's reputation is such that when Lazio sold him to AC Milan on transfer
deadline day in 2002, the Rome club's supporters demonstrated on the streets of the Italian capital.

European Championship with a score to settle. The nation, under the guidance of Dino Zoff, were denied the trophy in cruel
fashion four years ago when Sylvain Wiltord's injury-time equaliser allowed France to claim glory with a golden goal.

Tell 01 m 608808 Playtime is over... Luis Figo (Portugal)
PORTUGAL banked everything on Luis Figo for Euro 2000 and the gamble very nearly paid off as the nation re a ch ed the semi- f i n a l s b e f o r e losing to France. T h e
s u c c e s s was not en t ir e ly down to Figo - the squad four years ago was one of their strongest ever - but he is to Port-ugal what Zinedine Zidane is .to. France, and has already been capped lOO-times. But the 2001 World Player of the Year has
been forced to fight for attention at Real Madrid this season. The arrival of David Beckham, combined with
Zidane's brilliance, meant Figo was no longer guaranteed his a starting place at the Bernabeu, but he rose to the challenge and ensured he would not be sidelined. Much of the praise which Figo attracts
focuses on his creativity and play-making, but he is so good in front of goal that Portugal can expect their star man to hit the net once every three games.
Henrik Larsson (Sweden)
HENRIK LARSSON needs to do everyone a favour this summer and answer a recurring question: Is he one of Europe's elite, or is playing in Scotland that easy? Based purely on international statistics,
Larsson's record is fairly impressive - 24 goals in 73 games is a decent return for any striker, and his decision to come out of retirement for Euro 2004 is an great lift for Sweden. But the real proof of Larsson's class is in his
European record since moving to Parkhead. Through the Champions League and the UEFA
Cup, Larsson has scored 35 times for the Scottish champions in Europe. Motherwell and Partick are easy pickings for a
top-class striker, but he got past the defences of Boavista, Liverpool and Porto on the way to the UEFA Cup final. It is unlikely, however, that his presence will
turn a mediocre Swedish squad into potential champions.
