Bud and his pal put best paws forward!
BUD the cocker spaniel slept through most of Chil dren In Need on the television on Friday night. He had earned a good rest, having spent the day
walking 32 miles with his owner, superfit grandad David Wilson, to raise money for the charity. David (43) works at the Yorkshire Bank, in
Clitheroe, where colleagues and customers sponsored
his long walk with Bud. He set out early from his home in Barrow on Friday morning, thankful that the week-long rain had
stopped! He and 18-month-old Bud walked first to the bank
and then through Whalley and Langho to Blackburn, where he visited BBC Radio Lancashire and the York shire Bank’s Blackburn branch. Setting off again, David and Bud walked on
through Knuzden, Oswaldtwistle, Church, Accring ton, Clayton-le-Moors and Whalley on the return trip to Clitheroe, arriving at the bank just before 5 p.m. Even then, he faced the walk home to Barrow! He hopes to raise around £300 to add to the £225
raised by colleagues in the bank who baked cakes and buns to sell throughout the day. Our picture shows David and Bud relaxing after
their long walk and getting some well-earned pamper ing from colleagues (from the left) Julie Anderson, Dave Black and Louise Leigh. • •;

Lollipop lady keeps a surprise under wraps
LOLLIPOP lady Jackie Devine had a secret under her long lollipol lady’s coatl Pupils, parents and staff at Brookside Pri
mary School, Clitheroe, paid 20p to guess what she was wearing under her coat on Children In Need day, with some great prizes on offer for those who guessed correctly. Mother Christmas, a snowman, an angel and
even Pudsey Bear were just some of the guesses that were wide of the mark. All was revealed when Jackie, the school’s lol
lipop lady for the past three years, took, off her coat in assembly to show that underneath she
was Snow White. “All the children loved it, they had a great
time guessing what I might he wearing,” said Jackie. She also gave out lollies and balloons to the
children and managed to raise a magnificent £361.12 on the day, with more money coming in.
The main prize - a weekend away for two -
was donated by The Swan and Royal, in Clitheroe, and won by Mrs Nightingale, one of the teachers at the school. Another of the prizes, a giant teddy, was won
by a family with four children. Our picture shows Jackie with children at
Brookside Primary School (C211103/1).

TWO kind-hearted young groups from Clitheroe’s Trin ity Centre turned over a new leaf and bounced back £200 for Children in Need. Twenty local to ts from
Trinity Community Partem- ership’s “Leaping Lizards” group jumped for the charity by taking part in a “Bounce- athon”. A bouncy castle set
up.in
the sports hall of the Trinity Centre had four and five- year-old youngsters taking turns to bounce for two hours to complete the task. Child care worker Miss
Rebecca Magee helped the children, who were accompa nied by parents, child-min ders and grandparents. Child care development
manager Miss Adele Burgess explained: “Everybody had a great time. Any new mem bers are always welcome to come along and join the group.” Meanwhile, children from
Clitheroe; Out-of-School Club, also based at the Trini-
ty Centre, were busy keeping the town tidy by picking up leaves to raise money for Children in Need. Twenty hags of leaves were
collected from the castle grounds in just 30 minutes as part of the sponsored “Leaf Pickathon.” “The children identified
th a t the amount of leaves falling and covering the walk ways on the castle grounds can be dangerous for both older people and young chil dren,” said Miss Burgess. “They thought th a t they
would give a hand at helping to clear the area, while raising money for ch arity a t the same time.” The challenge was com
pleted with the help of child co-ordinator Miss Adele Hitchen. Pictured above are young
