Whalley Juniors Vila . . . . . .3 R ea d s to n e.......................

IN an entertaining match, Whal ley produced a commanding dis play of football to win their first- ever U-a-side game. Whalley controlled the game
from the start as their sharp pass ing game made better use of a very large pitch. I t came as no surprise when
Tom Brown fired them into the lead in the first-half. After the break, Readstone
increased their level of play, but it was Whalley who netted again through a fine solo effort from Dane Farrow. A third was soon to follow to
complete Brown’s brace, as Whal ley ran out comfortable winners.

any of their opportunities on goal. The game was an end to end
affair and both teams could and should have scored before Brunlea took the lead midway through the first-half. And after the visitors netted
again, the second hald descended into a scrappy affair th a t saw

. And despite their efforts and a
number of near misses, Whalley could not get back into the game.

Rangers started the

' ’Prior,W that’, great fraternal foot
balling traditions were upheld at Roe f i e l d . ;
‘tf$In;a week of,major departures for the Valley Badgers; including assistant mahagerandinspirationalkeeper Graeme Seedall, into the breach stepped his younger brother Martin, who;; bearing an uncanny resemblence to Phil Neville, kept'a clean sheet.
. „ Aiding the new Valley keeper was a solidba'ckfourablymarshalledby returning skipper Dave Cook; with the ever-gifted and reliable pair, of James Fazackerley and Peter Berry.' . , . With top goalscorer Paul Chippen

Another highlight for the Badgers .was the tremendous work' on the right flank'from Simon Tattersall and Craig Dewhurst, who worked welltogether and caused the Legion problems every time they got the ball. •t A major plus for the Badgers was
the late appearance of placer manager Anthony Clarkson; following a twof year cruciate knee ligament nightmare. Goming on as a sub for the injured.
Peel; his fiistappearance in the shirt of the club he created, i Clarkson injected pace and movement to the front line andwon his side a: penalty when he was brought down by .the desperate Legion keeper in the 75th minute. $> Whalley succeeded with the spot kick and the scoreline was complete. . .

■ A PATCHED-UP Dog Inn crashed to their sixth successive defeat thanks to a 6-1 battering by
: Church-Town at Foxhill Bank. Despite'an impressive goalkeep ing display from recent signing
; Yasser Patel, the Budweiser Boys . conceded three goals in the openiing 20 minutes.
’—
•' Chances were few and far between, but a goal on the hour from Mohamed Nakhuda, his first for. the club, gave the Whalley side some hope. - J. However, three late strikes,
^including the now customary own .goal, compounded Dog’s agony. . Disappointed manager Simon
/Kerins said after, the game: “We beat ourselves.

rand don’t pass you are doomed to failure.
“We are playing Stanley Old
: Boys on Sunday, a physical but fair side, and I will only select people who are not going to
shirk.the inevitable challenge.”
Cup progress for Rimington
Gargrave ......................'............‘..1 R im in g to n .....................................2 A WINDY afternoon, a bobbly pitch and a first round cup tie against acom- petitive home side all pointed a to a potential pit fall that Rimington just managed to avoid.
- Gargrave,' playing with the strong
wind at their. backs, had the best part of: the firstrhalf; and could have been three or four up by the interval. , / Rimington, on the otherhand,
seemed to approach the game as a friendly, and. were more than
happy.to:
allow.the opposition time and space on the ball. 'The locals’ first warning came on six
minutes when'a .Gargrave striker, was' allowed a free shot at goal that only the crossbar could deny. * /A couple offree-kicks from just'out-
