Commanding display earns historic success

Whalley Juniors Vila . . . . . .3 R ea d s to n e.......................

, ,o

IN an entertaining match, Whal ley produced a commanding dis play of football to win their first- ever U-a-side game. Whalley controlled the game

from the start as their sharp pass ing game made better use of a very large pitch. I t came as no surprise when

Tom Brown fired them into the lead in the first-half. After the break, Readstone

increased their level of play, but it was Whalley who netted again through a fine solo effort from Dane Farrow. A third was soon to follow to

complete Brown’s brace, as Whal ley ran out comfortable winners.

Whalley Juniors U15sB . . 0 Brunlea .................................... 3 WHALLEY' put in their best per formance of what has been a dis appointing season so far. But they were unable to convert

any of their opportunities on goal. The game was an end to end

affair and both teams could and should have scored before Brunlea took the lead midway through the first-half. And after the visitors netted

again, the second hald descended into a scrappy affair th a t saw

. And despite their efforts and a

number of near misses, Whalley could not get back into the game.

BLACKBURN Rovers have intro duced a new loyalty scheme called The Card that allows dedicated sup porters to save money on match day admission prices. The scheme depends upon how

many games you attend, and with each ticket you buy, a proof of pur chase sticker is issued that is then attached to your card. When you have placed three, five

or seven different stickers to your card in the coresponding bronze, sil ver and gold spaces, you can then claim your reward.

and man of the match Simon Mashiter inflicted further pain on the visitors with a number of crunching tackles, before Adam Gatens netted with a sweet strike. Ossy Rangers............... 2 Wolves Under 13s......... 1 DESPITE dominating the second-half, Wolves suffered an agonising defeat at the hands of Oswaldtwistle Rangers in a game that the locals were chasing right from the start. Rangers started the

brighter of the two sides, and some neat incisive foot ball brought them a two- goal lead inside 10 minutes. But the Clitheroe heads

did not drop, and debutant Liam Anderson, who had an excellent game, finished off a fine move down the right to give Wolves hope. However, a string of near

misses from' Anderson showed it was not Clitheroe’s day. Man of the match was

Wolves Under 13s .......... 2 Blue Star ................. ...3 CLITHEROE Wolves played their part in this entertaining game, but were very unlucky not to come away with anything for

their efforts. The locals opened the

back, but an excellent ball from David Meyler played Jay Howard through to fin ish in style and see Wolves 2-1 up at the break. In the second half both

sides carved out chances, but it proved to he Blue Star’s day as Wolves were caught out with two break away goals. Wolves Under 14s.........3 Barrowford Celtic........1 WOLVES came hack from 1-0 down to win this hard- fought encounter. The turning point came

just before half time when Matt Baines raced away down the right flank and

whipped in a cross which was deflected in by a Bar rowford defender. The second half saw

Wolves improve their posi tion with goals from Baines and Ben Allen. Man of the match went

to Daniel Musgrove. Rishlon United........... 0 Wolves Under 9 s ........... 1 WOLVES moved to the top of the league with their fifth successive Accrington League win. In a closely contested

match, Wolves dominated the first half, with Tom Robinson striking the post. Man of the match Andy

Cup progress for Rimington

Gargrave ......................'............‘..1 R im in g to n .....................................2 A WINDY afternoon, a bobbly pitch and a first round cup tie against acom- petitive home side all pointed a to a potential pit fall that Rimington just managed to avoid.

- Gargrave,' playing with the strong

wind at their. backs, had the best part of: the firstrhalf; and could have been three or four up by the interval. , / Rimington, on the otherhand,

seemed to approach the game as a friendly, and. were more than happy.to: allow.the opposition time and space on the ball. 'The locals’ first warning came on six

minutes when'a .Gargrave striker, was' allowed a free shot at goal that only the crossbar could deny. * /A couple offree-kicks from just'out-
