A CHARMING and fascinating picture of “Winter in Clitheroe” will bring a seasonal boost to a very good
cause this Christmas. The painting, by
acclaimed professional artist John L. Chapman, has been donated to the East Lancashire Hospice, which has reproduced it as its official Christmas card. All proceeds from sales of
the cards will go to the hos pice, which cares for people from across the Ribble Val ley as well as Blackburn, Darwen and Hyndburn. The picture shows a
snowy scene, looking up Castle Street - crowned by the Castle itself - from the junction with Church Brow. It is set in Edwar dian times, or possibly a lit tle later, as “new fangled motor cars’ are pictured alongside the more tradi- tonal horses and carts. The artist, who is
renowned for his nostalgic paintings of Lancashire scenes, researched the paintings from old pho tographs and his own con temporary photographs of

Dog Soldiers (Sky MovieMax, 10pm) This British flick was hailed by some critics as the best werewolf film since cult favourite An American Werewolf in London. A squad of British Army officers, led by Sergeant Wells (Sean Pertwee), takes part in a routine mili tary exercise on the Scottish Highlands. They stumble on a pile of human remains and an Injured comrade who appears to have been attacked by an animal. Wells and his men soon find themselves under attack from giant, wolf-like creatures.
