FINDING NEMO (U); The Grand Cinema from Friday, October 24th.

IF you a re lo oking for an u n d e rw a te r a d v e n tu re of t ru ly epic p ro p o r tio n s , t ry “Finding Nemo”. Animated films have come a

very long way indeed since those shaky Felix the Cat car toons. “Finding Nemo” is a t the

cutting edge of the a r t form, using all the latest computer generated trickery. I t has been created by Pixar,

th e an im a tio n arm of the mighty Walt Disney empire, and follows in the finest tradi tions of Disney family films. “Finding Nemo” is a tale of

two fish, father and son Marlin and Nemo. When Nemo is captured on

the Great B a r r ie r Reef and thrust into a fish tank in a den tis t’s office overlooking Sydney Harbour, his timid father must overcome his fishy fears and set out to find and rescue his son. Meanwhile, Nemo and his

new tank-mates are plotting their own escape back to the wide blue ocean before Nemo becomes a new pet for the den tist’s nieces. This is a visually stunning and

highly entertaining film that will appeal to young an old alike. In America it recently became

the most successful animated feature film of all time, overtak ing “The Lion King” by grossing more than £208.5m. at the box office.

Question: Captain Nemo features in the book ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”, but who wrote it?

Yorkshire-based Mikron The atre Company has been touring its production, “A Woman's Place”, which charts the epic struggle for women's suffrage. • The show comes to St Mary’s

Church Hall, Sabden, on Sun day, October 26th. Mikron tells the story of the

suffragettes in its usual fast- moving style, focusing particu larly on the relationship between Emma Taylor, a Lancashire millworker, and Mrs Pankhurst’s militant suffragette daughter, Christabel. As always, Mikron brings

humour to this serious subject and the show, written by Mike Lucas and Rodney Matthew, is laced with humour and some splendid original songs and music by Jim Woodland. Mikron's four actor-musicians

Celebrating a birth

“SAVING GRACE”, a new play to celebrate the 300th anniversary of John Wesley’s birth, comes to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School for a Hallowe’en night perfor

mance. In the blacked-out landscape of the Second World

War, a journalist sets out on a private pilgrimage. In the fens of Lincolnshire he searches for John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement. Caught in the no-man’s land between Good Friday

and Easter Morning, he begins to uncover a life caught between doubt and faith, between a passion for God and a passion for women, and dangerously a t odds with the established church. Written by Les Ellison, “Saving Grace” is presented

by the York-based Riding Lights Theatre Company. The performance starts at 7-30 p.m. For tickets call the box office on 0845 9613000.
