CLITHEROE Tennis Club’s open and mixed teams romped home with important victories. The open team, pushing hard for'

top spot in the Third Division of their competition, did their chances no harm with a whitewash victory over both Burnley B and C. In both games Mary Brass and

Stephen Pym dominated, as did Louise Burrill and Tony Bush in the first match, while against the C team, Phil Mileham and Mick Dewhurst

produced the results. The mixed team, struggling in

mid-table, had mixed success. Both Julie Pym and Mark Hanson, and second pair Mary and David Brass, had successes, but lost on countback on games won in a losing draw against Sunnyhurst B.

The team won 3-1 victory at East

Lancashire, with Louise Burrill and Derek Parrott a strong foil for Mary Brass and Stephen Pym. In the American tournament on

Sunday, Mary Brass was victorious, with Tony Bush winning the men’s competition. With first round matches in the

club knockout tournaments due to have been completed, the most entic

ing match is in the men’s singles, where Gordon Pimperton takes on

the youth and strength of Ben Dyer. The club’s summer ball is on Satur

day, June 21st. Members should pur chase their tickets from committee members as soon as possible.
