MEDITATION was the subject of a talk at a book launch at Clitheroe Books. The speaker was the Buddhist monk
Kelsang Namkhyen, a senior teacher at the Losang Dragpa Buddhist Centre in Tod- mordeh, who addressed a gathering of about 20 people. The book on which his talk was based is
The New Meditation Handbook, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, and explains 21 step-by- step meditations, each one designed to develop a positive mind and make one’s life happy and meaningful. Although the techniques explained in the
book, and in the meditation classes held at Clitheroe Books, are from the Buddhist tradition, they are shown in such a way
that anyone can benefit from them, regard less of background. The talk will be fol lowed up by the weekly meditation classes at Clitheroe Books every Wednesday at 7 p.m. A variety of courses are run at the
Losang Dragpa Buddhist Centre showing how Buddhism and meditation can be used to help in a modern lifestyle by reducing stress, overcoming anger and finding peace within. For further details contact Clitheroe

Remarkable life comes to an end
FEW men have had such a remarkably varied life as Down- ham’s Mr Michael McFall, who

writing Downham’s Millennium Masque pageant. ■
Mr McFall was born in Blundell-

Fair in need of choirs
CHOIRS are needed for this year’s Christmas fair in Clitheroe. A plea has been made by
organiser Mr Ray Barker for choirs to sing at the fair, which will be held on Sun day, December 7th, at Clitheroe market. Clitheroe Town Band
has already been booked, extra stalls arranged and the area will be decorated to provide a traditionally festive air, to which it is hoped to add the seasonal sound of choirs. Mr Barker said that he
would like to have one choir to sing in the morning and one in the afternoon, but the more the merrier. He added that he hoped school choirs would be able to attend the event. Mr Barker can be con
tacted at Castle Minia tures, Moor Lane Clitheroe, or on 0774 7663 590.
