ber and Jim Steinman, the hit West End musical opens at the Palace Theatre on October 27th and runs until November 8th. I t is based on the much-loved

film, which starred Alan Bates and a young Hayley Mills, but the action is relocated from the North of England to America’s deep south. A 15-year-old girl discovers a

mysterious man hiding out in a barn. When she asks his identity, the first words he utters, spoken as profanity rather than a reply, are “Jesus Christ”. It is as if all the girl’s prayers have been answered. She, and then the other children

of the town, vow to protect the stranger from the world that waits outside. Meanwhile, the townsfolk are determined to catch a fugitive on the run. Inevitably, the inno cence of the children collides head- on with the cynicism of the adult world in this thought-provoking modem fable.

The show features award-win

ning songs including “The Vaults of Heaven”, “Whistle Down the Wind” and “No Matter What”, which was a number one hit for Boyzone. Tickets for Whistle Down the Wind, at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, can be booked on 0870 4016000.

Search for The Lost Boys

A SEARCH is on to find the Lost Boys in time for a Christmas pro duction of Peter Pan at The Lowry. The Salford Quays theatre is

holding open auditions for the juvenile main characters in its pro duction of "Peter Pan", which stars Paul Nicholas as Captain Hook and Clare Buckfield as Wendy. Twelve strong and confident

young actors are required to join Peter in Neverland as The Lost Boys and Wendy’s brothers, John and Michael Darling. The Lost Boys need to be aged

between 10 and 14, with a maxi mum height of 5ft. 2in. To play the role of John, boys need to be aged 10 to 12 and no taller than 4ft. lOin. and for his younger brother Michael, aged between eight and 10 and no taller than 4ft. 2in.

Gymnastic skills would be an

advantage but are not essential, and anyone auditioning should be able to perform for the full dura tion of the production, scheduled to run from December 20th to January 17th. The actors may also be involved in swashbuckling sword fights with

pirates. At the auditions, everyone will be required to read from a script. Interested applicants should go to the Hexagon Room at The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays on Monday, October 6th, at 4-30 p.m. Alternatively, take the second

star to the right and straight on until morning! Featuring an explosive pop

soundtrack, sensational choreog raphy and breathtaking acrobat ics, this brand new stage version of J.M. Barrie’s timeless classic is set to enthral everyone who ever wished they could fly.

CAN it really be 30 years since "The Rocky Horror Show” was first unleashed on an unsus pecting public? I t certainly can, and to mark the show's

30th birthday it is time to fish out the fishnets, buff up the basque and sharpen the stilettos - and that is just for the men! Yes, the only show that gives grown men the chance to dress in women’s underwear in pub lic is back, bigger and brassier than ever before. Direct from the West End, Richard

O’Brien’s "Rocky Horror Big 30 Show" is now playing at the Opera House, Manchester. Starring Jonathan Wilkes as Frank N.

Furter and Kevin Kennedy (Coronation Street’s Curly Watts) as The Narrator, this is a throbbing theatrical treat that will leave you breathless with excitement. Hit after classic hit is belted out, including

"Sweet Transvestite", "Damn I t Janet" and the dancefloor favourite, the pelvic-thrusting "Time Warp". In true Rocky Horror style, audience par

ticipation is welcomed and do not be alarmed if half the audience appears to have fallen from the pages of a saucy lingerie catalogue. Be warned though, this show has rude parts. "The Rocky Horror Big 30 Show" runs at

the Opera House until Saturday with tonight’s show at 8 p.m. and two shows on Friday and Saturday, at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The box office number is 0870 4019000.
