CLITHEROE Wolves Under 8s turned perennial under-achiev ers Spain into champions at the Junior, Football Tournament at Shawbridge on Sunday. All the sides adopted the identi

ty of different nations, and the Wolves, playing as Spain, beat rivals Clitheroe Rangers - Brazil - 1-0 in the final. The team topped the league

table after finishing unbeaten. The Wolves first beat Chipping

(England) 3-0 with goals from Ripley (2) and Gudgeon.

They bettered that with a 5-0

win over Readstone (Portugal), with Ripley hitting a hat-trick. Bailey and Kenneriy were also on target. Parkinson's goal was enough to

beat Clitheroe Rangers (Brazil), and a strike from Dent saw off Readstone (Argentina). The locals played out a goal-less

draw with Chipping (Republic of Ireland) to finish top of the group. In the semi-final, the Wolves

met Chipping (England), winning 5-0 with Ripley netting another

S id ew a lk ...................4 STORK opened the 2002-3 Pendle Charity League season with a thrilling win over Side walk. After a lacklustre opening 25 minutes, Stork opened their

account .through Andy Bennett after good work from Hargreaves and Ian Uttley. Sidewalk equalised

soon after but Bennett created the second when he crossed for Neil Snape to power home from four yards. Yet again, a long ball

treble, and Kenneriy adding a brace. The final against Rangers

(Brazil) was hard-fought, with Rangers defending well. Bailey finally broke through to

score the winner with time run ning out. It was an excellent tournament

with lots of goals, and goalkeeper Moorhouse finished without con ceding a goal, although Ripley's eight goals earned him the man of the tournament award.

Stork win nine-goal thriller

caught Stork napping as they were pegged back once more as the score at half-time read 2-2. The second 45 minutes

started very well for the Storks with player-man ager Uttley nudging his team ahead when he powered home from a Hargreaves comer.

Bennett then completed his hat-trick with two smart finishes. Sidewalk gave Stork a

scare, late-on when they scored twice but the Read outfit held on for a welcome win.
