In short, the Mazda6 is as good as the best of the rest for prices that are at least a couple of notches


below average. The 140 b.h.p. 2.0-litre engine is


agreeably brisk, hitting 60 m.p.h. in 9.7 seconds before running onto a top speed of 130 m.p.h. It feels leggy and lithe with a zingy metal­ lic tone as it ascends the rev range. Economy is good at 33 m.p.g. - emissions less so. The only blots on the car’s dynamic copybook are that the steering is a tad overassist­ ed and that the dampers rarely feel ■
