THIEVES got to an expensive pair of cast-iron gates before the owner of a house in Station Road, Whalley, could erect them. The gates, 9ft. wide and 5ft. high,:
were lying in the front garden of Grange House ready to be put up when they were stolen, along with sandstone
finials. . . The gates were valued at £1,500 and
the finials at £200. Police are appealing for information
from those who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously near the house between 4 p.m. on Monday, August 5th, and 8-45 a.m. on August 6th.
