centre. In a men versus women tournament at

Grindleton's Buck Inn, a ladies side, cap tained by Jemma Hoyle, drew six games all with the men's team, captained by Chris Raw. Their efforts raised £150 for the account set up at Clitheroe's branch of the Skipton Building Society to help fund the centre. Among the winning players were Anna Dylan, whose battle against breast cancer inspired her to launch the centre

Clitheroe FC ‘backroom boy supporter and clubman dies

A VOCIFEROUS sup porter of Clitheroe FC for much of last centu ry, Mr George Slinger, has died aged 91. Mr Slinger's long inter

est in the team's fortunes as decade followed decade from the year 1922 was recognised in several

ways. He had his own seat in

the club, he had his own place just to the side of the goals, and he was still presi dent of the supporters' club,

although unable to attend «

the meetings. Mr Slinger played ama

teur soccer briefly as a young man, and this seemed to give him Shaw- bridge touchline confidence . . . the opponents, the ref, even the home team heard his views as the fortunes of The Blues waxed and waned over the years. Up to quite recent times,

to the team's efforts. How ever, recently he had been living in a retirement home. A regular at the Royal

Traffic lights offenders targeted

MOTORISTS who "jump" the Castle Cement rail line crossing lights are being targeted by British Transport Police. Already one has been

fined £150 with £100 costs for failing to observe the lights. A spokesman for the

police says th a t drivers often accelerate through although the lights are flashing on red. "Some do not seem to know that flashing means stop - they need to look at the High way Code," said the officer. "The trains only move slow ly, but that is no reason to drive in front of them. Delays are kept to a mini mum. "The law is there to pro

tect everyone and must be observed." It is understood that the

driver pleaded guilty to the allegation in court, saying that he thought someone had waved him on.
