A BURGLAR broke I into a Clitheroe flat to | s tea l a Staffordshire bull terrier, possibly for illegal dog fights, a local

Cross Street, Bawdlands, Clitheroe, said he had had ] the heart-breaking task, during his last prison visit, of telling his son, Tyrone, about Fudge's disappear ance. "We are really worried
th a t Fudge was stolen by people running dog fights. We want him back before he comes to any harm," he said. Mr Bridges believes bur
glars smashed a window to reach the dog, adding: "They were ju s t after Fudge, because nothing else was taken." His son’s girlfriend and a
neighbour had been looking after the 14-month-old dog. . His girlfriend discovered the break-in when she arrived at the flat to take the dog out early in the morning. Mr Bridge said: "She
reported the break-in to the police and I have been searching around the area | looking for Fudge. "I am so worried th a t I
am prepared to offer a £50 reward to have him returned. We want him back for when Tyrone
comes home." Mr Bridge junior could
be home in April under the "tagging system" although his sentence runs until
June. A spokesperson for
Clitheroe police confirmed that they were investigating a report of damage at the flat.

BROWNIES from the Trinity Methodist Cen tre stretched out a help ing hand across the world to the children of
Haiti. An account about the
plight of Haitian children in need by the Rev. Philip Norris, of Bacup, who is involved in the Wings of | Hope project, left the Brownies so touched, they raised over £210 for the charity through a variety of activities, including a coffee evening. In addition they entertained mums, dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles with a show, which went towards each Brownie's jester's badge. Brownie leader Mrs
Stephanie Alston said: "I was very pleased by the girls' efforts. I t shows they have the compassion to think of others, even those far away in another land." Our picture shows mem

Walkers are asked not to disturb newborn lambs
M
A COUNTRYSIDE campaign group has put out an appeal to walkers in the Ribble Valley to tread
sheepishly so as not to disturb newborn lambs. Regional Director for the Country Landowners' Associ
ation in the North West Mr Jolyon Dodgson urged people to keep their dogs on leads and to leave gates shut behind
^H e said: "This is a critical time for our members in the uplands and they worry about sheep disturbance from people out walking. I t is important to realise that every sheep in the hills belongs to someone and it does no harm to remember a few simple rules, particularly as Easter is
aPThe organisation advises people not to interfere with any lambs that are found on their own, as it is likely that the mother is probably quite close. If a lamb appears to be iU or injured, walkers are asked to call at the nearest farm house to tell the farmer. Similarly should a lamb be found in the road, walkers are requested to contact the nearest farmer rather than putting it over a fence or gate, as it could be the wrong field, possibly leaving the lamb to
starve.
