Skill Share Centre in desperate need of another cash lifeline

LESS than 12 months after receiving a gener ous lifeline from a local business couple, the Clitheroe-based Skill Share Centre is facing another • desperate

search for funding. Closure again threatens

th e scheme, which la s t y ea r alone provided a wide v a r ie ty of courses and career advice for 224 local people w an tin g either to gain new skills or go back into work or edu

cation. With less than two months to go before the pre

sent funding runs out, the manager, Mrs Melanie Kilmister, is now making an urgent appeal to Lancashire County Council to save Skill Share. The county withdrew

financial support last year and the project, based at Trinity Centre, was on the point of closing when Ultra frame entrepreneurs John and Rosemary Lancaster stepped in with a £26,000 donation. Mrs Kilmister says the

centre needs £50,000 a year to continue at its present level and feels the county council should consider providing the money to

Pupils perform premiere of teachers' comedy play

THE world premiere of a musical comedy has stage- struck pupils of Ribblesdale High School, Clitheroe, all at sea. Teachers Mr Nick Dow-

son, who is head of drama and deputy head of the school's music department, and Mrs Alison P ar ro tt, have spent the last two years creating the show "Drop in the Ocean". Featuring 11 songs over

two 50-minute acts, it tells the story of a group of transatlantic passengers, sailing from England to New York in the 1920s. Laughs, love and a cast of over 50 combine to give Leonardo and Kate, stars of Hollywood blockbuster "Titanic", a run for their money.

Following its Clitheroe

run in the school's drama complex, which began on Tuesday and ends tomor-, row, Mr Dowson and Mrs Parrott are hoping to pub lish its script for production in other schools. While

tomorrow evening's performance is

already sold out, tickets . may be available on the door for tonight. They cost £4 for adults and £2 for children and OAPs.
