Mr Spedding commented: "This is a family-run business and we want the hotel and restaurant to be known as a place where people can bring their children ancl be greeted with a pleasant atmosphere. We have a lot of guests who are in town on business and who want to stay where they can have a quiet
meal and a chat."
Since retiring from dairy farming, Mr Spedding has worked at the Red Pump at Bashall Eaves for three-and-a-half years. There he met young chef Michael Law, who has since joined the Old Post House Hotel team. Michael, who has trained at Nelson and Colne College, is the man behind the mouth-watering menus.

BFtAND new era is dawning for the Old Post
House Hotel, King Street, Clitheroe.
Well-known Ribble Valley couple Mr John Spedding and his wife, Janet, w ho took over the running o f the hotel just over a month ago, are hoping to mix the old and the new b y combining fresh ideas with a traditional family atmosphere.
Guests are welcome at the King Street hotel seven days a week, whether they want afternoon tea or a bed for the night.
Already, people have been so pleased with the service that local companies are recommending the hotel to their international visitors.
"We want our guests to feel they are welcome, so that they will want to come back again and again, said Mr Spedding. "And if gLiests have particular requests, we will do our best to provide them with what j they want," added Mrs Spedding.
Born into a long-established farming family, Mr Spedding worked on the farm and in the family milk delivery business, which is now run by his twin brother, Robin. Knowing so many people in the town has helped the Speddings successfully launch the new era for the Old Post House Hotel. The couple have been delighted by the support they have been given.

WARM WELCOME.: John ancl Janet Spedding outside the Old Post House
Formerly the Fairfield Hotel, the Old Post House Hotel acquired its present name to mark the building's use as a post oil ice horn 1873 to 1928, and the Speddings hope to continue the postal tradition by turning the hotel's Penny Black restauiant into a
themed eaterie.
Providing a new and improved catering side to the business, by- separating it from the excellent bed and breakfast sendee, is pait of the exciting new plan for the hotel, with traditional English cuisine featuring local produce on offer. I lie draught beet, supplied by Burnley-based Moorhouses Brewery, is a speciality, as is the coffee, provided by the Exchange Coffee Company, in
Wellgate, Clitheroe.
There is a special lunch-time menu, which features tasty steaks and gammons, and this is available alongside the evening menu, for guests wanting something different.
In addition to the 10 en-suite bedrooms, which all have TVs, tea and coffee facilities, trouser presses and hairdryers, the hotel has a lounge bar, with a dining area, combining a restaurant and function room which together seat 80 people. A car park is available to the rear of the hotel. This is soon to be re-laid, and the creation of a patio area is also in the pipeline.
Business is looking good for the Speddings at present, with wotd of mouth from satisfied customers adding to the numbet ot guests. As a result, they are having to recruit more staff and members of their immediate family are only too happy to help
out when needed.
As well as catering for small parties, the Old Post House offers senior citizens' specials on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a wonderful menu created especially for the forthcoming Mothers' Day.
