YTTON Fold bowed out of the Mail on Sun day Golf Team Classic on Sunday.
The Whalley Road quartet lost a sudden-death
play-off against Nelson a t Marsden Heights. Roger Altham defeated Ian Short on the 18th and
John Duckett and Ted Bamborough halved against Les Brown and Peter I-Iowarth respectively. But My tton Fold's hopes of an extended run in this
national event came to grief when last-man Damien Plumbridge was crushed 6 and 5 by Dave Cryer and then lost the first play-off hole. Brian Clark continues to lead the Order of Merit in the Professional’s Winter Series after winning the 19th
round this week. Clark totalled 42 Stableford points and won ahead
of Andy Hartley (41 points), Neville Shears and Howard Taylor (both 40 points). With three weeks remaining Clark (90 points) tops
the Order of Merit with Shears (70 points), Hartley (54 points) and Taylor (52 points) his nearest chal
lengers. Annual meeting
starts at 8 p.m. and existing players and any newcom ers to the village are invited to attend.
