Lip reading The speaker at Chatburn


Methodist Women's Fel­ lowship's recent meeting was Mrs Carol Riley who teaches lip reading. Mrs Mabel Shaw presided and Mrs Hudson was the pianist. Mrs Riley explained how


her interest in lip reading started at an early age because her mother was profoundly death. When visitors to their home could not make themselves understood, Carol would communicate their message to her mother by lip lan­ guage. Later, she learnt sign


language. Ten years ago, she had an


opportunity to train as a teacher of lip reading and now teaches at four differ­ ent places. Her talk was most interesting and some­ times amusing. She appealed to her audience to be helpful towards people with impaired hearing.
