I PERRY-COON
A sea-view ceremony in the Dominican Republic was the romantic setting for the wedding of Miss Denise Lynn Coon and Mr Les Perry. The couple arrived by horse and carriage for their wed
ter of Robert and Irene Coon, of Bleasdale Avenue, Clitheroe. She is a branch systems operator for Tesco. The bridegroom, a heavy goods vehicle driver, also lives in Park Road, Great Harwood, and is the son of Les and
dress of pale green silk over layered cream chiffon. She had a matching butterfly headdress and carried a bouquet of
Sheila Perry, of Ashton, Preston. The bride designed her own'gown, an off-the-shoulder
fresh lilies. An evening reception was held at Sparth House Clay- ton-le-Moors, for family and friends, on the couple's return
home. They are to live in Great Harwood.
Emergency services in storm alert
EMERGENCY services have been ready for. action as the Ribble Valley weath ered high winds and torren tial rain. Saturday brought a num
ber of calls as water collect ed along lengths of the A59, with the road surface near Rose County Foods, between Sawley and Gis burn, one of the worst affected. Branches littered many
rural routes, making driving conditions dangerous. Three mature trees fell between Downham and Rimington on Saturday morning, blocking the road temporar ily. Workers from Downham Estate were called to help clear the debris. Traffic was diverted for a short while, with the road into Riming ton being re-opened to traf fic at lunchtime. There was a similar situa
tion close to the Red Rock Inn, Sabden, and on Mon day morning a large tree fell on the outskirts of Pendle ton, by the Clitheroe Road junction, -with traffic again being diverted.
Solo whist
THE winner of this week's solo whist at Clitheroe's Pendle Club was Mrs P. Holden. Second was Mrs D. Knight, with Mr R. Knight third. New players are welcome every Monday at 7-30 p.m.
Close look at nature for
camera club
MEMBERS of Ribblesdale Camera Club welcomed Mr Peter Mitchell, of Sandbach to talk about "Nature in Close-up." After an explanation of
the merits of close-up lenses, bellows and macro lenses, some excellent photographs were shown of insects of all kinds. Some of the shots were quite beautiful but when they were explained lost their interest suddenly! The club's next meeting
features another long-dis tance traveller to the Ribble Valley, when Mr John Pyatt drives over from Swinton, to give his colour print lecture "Of the Mind." A few memberships are
still available for this year. Just come to the clubroom in Ribble Lane, Chatburn, on any Tuesday at 7-30 p.m.
