port Management under took a poll of 5,500 of its fleet and used car section members, asking them to nominate dealerships. Nominated outlets then underwent an extensive research process, includ ing "mystery shopper" site visits, telephone enquiries and interviews. Kieran Ring, executive
director of the ITM, said: "Sanderson Bramall was found to be the most out standing motor retail group in the UK by virtue of its sheer number of nationwide locations together with its almost ubiquitous range and choice in car makes. Out lets visited were found to be very user friendly and displayed a degree of pro fessionalism unequalled elsewhere." Keith Hatrick, managing

New Rover is the king of chrome
By ADRIAN TAYLOR nrufiwmiunHHimiuaMiWmmM
CHROME is back big-style! The new Jaguar has lots
of it, so does the new Mer cedes S C la s s ...b u t the chrome king is undoubt edly the Rover 75. Rover’s big car - designed
to replace both the 600 and 800 Series at one swoop - is dripping in chrome. There’s plenty of i t inside in an interior that is a wonderful mix of modern and retro. And outside there are
shiny features a t every turn. Chrome covers the backs of the door mirrors, runs in a strip along the entire body, underlines the panels in a full length kick er strip and is featured in the bumpers, on the grille and on the boot. I t even surrounds all the glass. Judging by the impact it
has in highlighting the 75s big, sumptuous shape, the world is definitely ready for some brightening up again. I t looks wonderful. Inside the most striking feature is the heritage
appearance of the facia. Cream oval dials are set in a sea of wood. Nightime illumination is in backlit
orange. I love its look and its feel
but I have my doubts about rear legroom. I t doesn’t have the space normally associated with big execu tive cars.
Mitsubishi at the British Motor Show. The Challenger 4x4 will go on sale in Jan
uary, with prices ranging from £20,365 to £24,495. I t is a “sports off-roader” that is sleeker
than the Shogun and is aimed at stealing sales from the likes of the Honda CR-V and Freelander, but Mitsubishi insists it is also an extremely rugged and able countryside per former even though it handles like an estate car. Inside it is much more car-like than the
Shogun and more luxurious too, with plenty of room for five persons plus luggage Customers will be able to pick from 2.5
Yet the 75 is certain to
make a huge impact. Prices are expected to s ta r t a t around £19,000 for a 1.8 litre entry level model. Two litre and 2.5 litre V6
engines and a 2.0 litre com mon rail direct injection diesel will complete the engine options. Rover’s publicity claims
that use of new formulation high s tren g th steels has ensured an extremely rigid chassis and th a t equates with exceptional handling. Sales will begin in March.
