ning new clothes at Easter, including hats. It is a festi­ val around which many baptisms of new Chris­ tians take place, and new items of clothing represent a new beginning - and what better accessory to cut a festive dash in than a spanking new hat? Bonnets would often be


decorated in the three tra­ ditional Easter colours: yellow, white and green. Yellow is for the colour of the sun, shining through at the beginning of the new season (we live in hope!), green symbolises new growth, while white is for
