lows representations from the couple's solicitor, Mr John Houldsworth, of Houldsworth Taylor, who has supported their fight against the judicial authorities throughout their ordeal, which began
in December, 1994. It was then that Brunei University engineering sci
ences student Mark (29), following his return from a Christmas party, became involved in a fracas with a
second man. Police reports say that
6ft. 4in. Mark fell to the ground. He was taken to hospital but died soon afterwards, according to a later post-mortem exami nation, from internal bleed
boards on June 28th. Said Mr Knight: "We are
hoping to make these con certs a regular sight in Clitheroe. We want to give the public what it wants, but we do need support. Please come out in force so we can keep up the shows.”
in g .Three days later, a man, said to be a martial arts expert, was arrested and charged with Marks mur der but, by the following April, all charges against him had been dropped to the anger and disbelief of Mr and Mrs Taylor. Said Mrs Taylor: "We
miss Mark terribly and will never get over what hap pened to him. What makes it worse is knowing that the man who was charged with

We cannot understand how someone can be charged with premeditated murder
and then, out of the blue months later, have the case against them dropped. All we want to do is find out just how much information the CPS has about Mark’s death, because we feel we have been given very little help and support from the
authorities." I t was the afternoon ol
the next day before Mr and Mrs Taylor, who have two other grown-up children, learned of Marks death. The couple (pictured with a photograph of Mark) travelled to the university campus town of Uxbridge, Middlesex, but, following formal identification of their son, they were denied
access to his body. They also missed the
inquest, according to Mrs Taylor, because they were not told of its date. They were given dates for com mittal proceedings against the man charged with killing Mark, only to be told later that same day that, with charges being dropped on the grounds or self-defence, there would
now be no trial. Said Mr Houldsworth:
"The family are still suffer ing a lot of distress. They are victims and have suf fered a lack of information surrounding what hap pened to their son. Having contacted Mr Straw, he will have to reply and, depending on his response, we can decide what action
to take next." Limbering up for marathon run
