AN IMPROVED performance from Clitheroe’s second string still saw them fail to pick up th re e points a t Shawbridge. The Blues dominated early on but could not penetrate the Chadderton
defence. Simon Pickles and Dave Horrocks
both went close, forcing good saves from the visiting keeper. Chadderton looked dangerous going forward and had the Clitheroe defence stretched, but it was the Blues who took the lead after Pickles was upend

goals. The Blues gave local rivals Dar wen a lesson in football during that first period, but the second half was a disappointment with both sides failing to take advantage of several openings. The home side started the better,
when he fired in his ninth goal in seven games on 14 minutes, raiding the left hand side before shooting into the far corner. This provoked Darwen into life
and following a corner, the home side levelled matters with a good header from Mark Walsh giving Goodman no chance. Darwen almost took a shock lead
when a shot skimmed the Blues’ bar, but Clive Dunn put Clitheroe ahead for the second time 10 min utes before the break. Dave Sharpies found the
unmarked Dunn from a free kick, and he found the back of the net from 10 yards. Penman should have increased
and won a couple of corners, but James Goodman, deputising for Lee Greenacre in goal, showed con fidence and good handling. Penman handed Clitheroe the lead
because they haven’t had their own ground for about three seasons. “For that match I hope to

A pass put Horrocks in the clear and he unleashed a vicious shot into the bot tom corner of the net. Ramsbottom were not too deflated and levelled moments later when a mix-up between Greenacre and defender Lee Dobson let in a Ramsbottom forward, who followed the ball into the empty net.
