DREAM DEBUT!
RIBBLE Valley golfer Kim Rostron tasted life on the international stage and said: ‘‘Representing England is undoubtedly the high light of my
career so far. “Having finally achieved my ambition of playing for
my country at full international level, I want to play on the big stage again.’’ The 22-year-old plus-three Clitheroe GC ace fared
better than she had possibly dared hope, winning all three singles and having mixed fortunes in two four somes, as England reeled off three victories at Long- niddry GC to retain the Home International crown. Kim, who had previously played for England at
junior and Under-21 level, made her senior bow against Wales and won a tense debut singles on the very last putt! In the match against Ireland, Kim and E. Fields lost
2 and 1 in the foursomes but the local lass recovered to win triumph in the singles 3 and 2. And in the title decider against Scotland, Kim part nered Rebecca Hudson to an emphatic 5 and 4 victo ry in the foursomes and then accounted for A. Rose 4 and 3 in the singles. Kim was supported in her endeavours by her proud
parents, Nina and Fred, and Michael and Joyce Andrew, as well as her England coach, Jane Forrest. The Clitheroe and Baxenden member praised the
condition of the Longniddry course and was delight ed to justify the selectors’ faith in her. “I did not expect to play as many times as I did, but
the selectors obviously had faith in me and I was pleased to perform so well.”
