Bid to cut council’s fuel bill by 15%

THE llihblc Valley Coun cil is implementing an energy efficiency scheme — in an attempt to lop 15% off its £170,000 annual fuel bill.

The scheme will include

the appointment of an energy controller for each council building, as well as the setting of maximum office temperatures of 19 degrees centigrade.

Council officers will also

investigate the potential of low-energy lighting and spray taps, as well as arranging energy aware ness programmes for council tenants.

A meeting of the coun

cil's Finance and General Purposes Committee gave the go-ahead for the pur chase of computer soft ware, at a cost of £(i,500,to implement the scheme.

Chief technical officer

Mr Paul MaeNeall told the meeting that the scheme would result in reduced fuel bills and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

STEPPING UP EFFORT FOR CANCER RESEARCH

A FIVE-HOUR sponsored workout organised by a Chatburn woman has helped to raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research.

Tracy Benson (23) got her arms swinging and her knees bending, along with

50 other local people who took part in the fund-raising event at Chatburn Pri mary School at the weekend.

Tracy, who teaches aerobics at Clitheroe Squash Club and at the town’s

United Reformed Church, was delighted by the response, which included a commendable effort from the youngest participant, 10-year-old Sharon Adcroft. Our picture shows Tracy (centre) surrounded by some of the participants who took part in the charity event.

Village policeman scores hit with soccer school

A SUMMER soccer school, organised by the village policeman in conjunction with Blackburn Rovers FC, was bang on target with 20 Chatburn children.

The soccer school, which was held over three

days, was open to boys and girls between the ages of seven and 1(5.

With the emphasis on fi^n, the children practised

their skills, under the supervision of special football couches and I’C David Fish, on Chatburn playing fields.

The highlight was a trip to Ewood Park, the

home of Blackburn Rovers FC. Children had a look at the players’ changing

rooms and the club’s trophy cabinet. At the end of the course, all the players received certificates of merit and the children’s enthusiasm

has made it likely that the school will return next summer.
