S C lit liv ro e A d ve r tise r it Times, September 13th, 1990 ADVERTISING FEATURE Stunning features of Ford’s new range
THE Ford Escort has hcen Britain’s top selling car for the past eight years! And the re-designed models together with their Orion stable- mates represent the most complete new range ever introduced by a Euro pean manufacturer.
Some 2,500 engineers working in
both Britain and Germany have come up with vehicles offering many fea tures never before seen in this class o f car. Now Ford is confident that its £1 billion development programme will strengthen its position at the head o f the “ small family" sector of the market.
For instance, it is offering power
steering and electronic anti-locking brake c on tro l among numerous options. The Escort comes as a three or five
door hatchback, a five door estate car designed from scratch rather than as a variant, and a two door “ Cabrio
let” . There is also a smart delivery van.
The Orion is available in four dif
ferent versions, with a much wider choice o f equipment and appointment than before. There are six engines, with more front and rear shoulder room and more rear legroom than previously. Orions have found a valu able place among motorists wanting the added status o f a slightly larger car than the Escort, with the extra security o f a separate luggage com partment.
The ove ral l shapes o f the new
range keep the previous models in memory, but have smoother con tours, more Hush glass, lower waist line, and enlarged glass areas. .Mov ing the wheels further apart both lengthways and widthways has secured a wider, more secure stance on the road. There is more space, less wind
noise, better visibility, and taller doors. And there are numerous thoughtful touches, in and out, which dispel at a glance any thoughts o f the Escort Popular being just a basic vehicle.
For instance, it has limousine type
doors, flushbonded front and rear screens, variable ration rack and pin
steering, a floodlit instrument clus ter, height adjustable front belts, threc-spceed heater blowers, remote control door mirrors, car alarm, numerous stowage bins and shelves, reclining front seats, coathooks and many other features.
Naturally, details differ depending
on model, but overall there are some •10 new features for the cars. It need hardly be said that various engine, configurations are offered, all with the most modern technology and giv ing exceptional economy. Some o f the new items included
cither as standard or available as o p t ion s on the v a r iou s models
include: • Power steering.
O Electronic braking control. 0 Air conditioning. • Heated washer jets. • Dedicated in-car audio system
with CD option. 0 In te g ra l ly moulded, non-sag
upholstery. • Seat belt height adjustment. • Driv er’s scat height and t i lt
adjustment. • Map reading lamps. • Flush headlamps. • Full length centre console. • Headlamp levelling. • Remote tailgate release. 0 New suspension features to
improve ride and handling ease. There are many more, representing
meticulous research hy Ford amongst car. drivers and passengers from all across the market.

£20,00(1 on promoting the Escort anil Orion, already has some orders and is part of such a big group that managers are confident of being able to fulfill the expected heavy demand. lint the Towneley show is also to

price or service and offer total cus tomer care" is their philosophy, and you can test it for yourself by getting in touch. There are generous trade-in allowances for your old vehicle against
