versary of the formation of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes in Kngland and Wales, each branch lias been asked to organise a special event. Rimington WI chose as their celebration a harvest supper and auction sale. The Memorial Institute

extra special by the pres ence o f a v is itor from Rimington’s Australian link CVVW/Y institute in Nlnihmhiiy, in the North ern Territory. Mrs Mary Braun and
her husband John, who arc a t p r e s e n t v is i t in g England, made time to come to the Kibble Valley and Rimington and have been staying at the home o f Mr and Mrs Harry Seed. By a happy chance they had arrived in time to join in the birthday party and were warmly welcomed. In turn they expressed
their delight and pleasure, not only tit the friendly atmosphere of the village and WI, but also tit tin beautiful scenery tint charm of the whole Ribbli Valley. Miss Bairstow thanked
those who had helped or donated auction
gifts.The proceeds of over £118 will go to the special NFWI fund to benefit children's charities.

up demonstration using six volunteers, all differing in colour and complexion, and explained how to apply make-up and colour tones. Miss M. Hindley, one of the models, gave the vote of thanks. Tetley tea towels,
offered as prizes in the raffle, were won by V. Jaques and E. Brown and a competition for a decorated hair slide by W. Nolan, K. Bond and R. Slattery. . Arrangements were

Enchanting Plans for "z\n enchant

the flavour of a good old- fash ion ed V ic to r ia n Christmas and visitors will be invited to attend in period costume, although this is not compulsory. The re will be musical entertainment, a tombola and a buffet supper. Pro ceeds will be used to help pay for repairs to the church roof and church
yard wall. Also discussed was the
harvest thanksgiving on October 7th, followed by the harvest home the fol lowing evening ill the vil lage hall. Arrangements were also made for Christ mas services.

service of Mattins, two new choristers were admitted to the choir of St Helen’s Church, Wadding- ton. The vicar, the Rev.
Alan Bailey, welcomed Laura Whitwell and Jon athan Blenkinship and presented them with
Royal School of Church Music certificates of mem bership. Laura and Jonathan
then joined the rest of the choir for the singing of the anthem "Jcsu, the very thought is sweet,” set to music by Richard She phard. the present head master of York Minster Choir School. A section of the psalm
was sung antiphonally by Mr Peter Cunliffc (tenor) and Ben Whitham and Simon Cunliffe (trebles).
