It was a team effort

Moves to improve pitch

IMPROVEMENTS to the village football pitch at Read could start this summer.

' The pitch, used for the

past few- years by Read United's sides in the Ribble Valley League, has been plagued by drainage problems for some time and the parish council wants - to tackle the dif ficulties during the close season.

1 Parish council clerk Mrs

Sheila Sturrock said a survey carried out by ex perts showed that some layers of soil had become compacted and were not allowing surface water to drain off.

The parish council has

decided to approach the Ribble Valley Council’s technical department to ask for suggestions about how the job should be tackled and also if a grant could be made available to help with the work.
