The show, produced by
Hilda Basnctt, will be given in- the Parish Hall in Feb ruary.
Sewage scheme underfire
: A £46,000 scheme to connect the Barrow sewer to the Whalley sewage disposal system would only add to pollution problem's in the Whalley area, according to a
Ribble Valley councillor. At Tuesday's meeting of the
council, Billington member Coun. Terence Yates said the plan could lead to a tricky position over planning applica
tions. “We have been told that no

Whitewell Mothers’ Union heard a talk by Mrs F. Single- ton on her year in office as Ribble Valley Mayoress. She gave three special insights into a crowded year — visits to a royal garden party, senior citizens' over Christmas, and the young folk of the Ribble Valley. Enrolling member Mrs D. Chadwick provided
refreshments.

Whitewell, postponed due to low attendance, is
now.being
held at the Whitewell Hotel on November 28tK, at 8 p.m. It is hoped
that-.the later time will
suit more of the electors of the parish, so that a council can be formed which will be of great

new developments can be undertaken in the Whalley area because of inadequate sewage facilities. But we are laying ourselves open to criti cism and ridicule by condoning a scheme which does not mean pumping a few more houses into the sewer, but rather a whole village," he said. The council’s Chief Techni
cal Officer, Mr Dennis Black, said originally Clitheroe RDC had planned improvements to the Whalley works and a link
up to Barrow. The Whalley project was
now the direct responsibility o f the R eg iona l Water Authority and the Ribble Val ley Council had followed up the link scheme as agent, in the hope that the water authority would continue with the Whalley plan.
The link was considered
necessary partly because, of the possibility of industry
coming to Barrow. But because of a lack of
funds to proceed with the Whalley works this year — and maybe even next year — there was now a possibility that the Barrow sewer might
not be built. However, it was still on the
cards and the council was going through with the proce dure of inviting tenders, he
said. Coun. Yates said he could
not put his name to the plan, and his views were shared by Councillors John Shaw .and James Fell, of-Whalley, and Coun. Bill Fleming (Bil
lington).. , • Bolton-by-Bowland
