The Birmingham Hospitality Association is pleased to announce two new appointments to the Executive Board of the Birmingham Hospitality Association (BHA).


IN BIRMINGHAM’S HOSPITALITY SECTOR encourage better engagement and inclusion.


Emma Morgan, General Manager of Malmaison and Nicola Underhill, General Manager of Hilton Metropole, NEC have been endorsed as the new joint chairs of the association.


The recent appointments reflect the association’s desire to expand its membership and to become the voice of hospitality for the Birmingham City Region.


The BHA is a membership-led, not-for-profit consortium of hospitality venues across the Birmingham City Region. Its aim is to create a space where members can offer support, to assist their businesses while working collaboratively to promote hospitality as a career of choice and market the region as a desirable destination.


Emma Morgan brings a wealth of experience of operating in Birmingham city centre for the last five years. She said: “I am thrilled to be made joint Chair at this exciting time. I want to build on some of the existing strong relationships across the region and encourage partners to work together to promote the city as a destination of choice. ”


Nicola Underhill has worked for large scale hotel and venue businesses for a number of years and will take on the role of extending membership and stakeholder partnerships beyond the city centre to

AFRICAN-INSPIRED RESTAURANT AFRIKANA OPENS IN COVENTRY


Afrikana is a halal restaurant that combines traditional African recipes with a 'modern twist' to offer an 'exquisite' dining experience for customers with 'vibrant dishes' and 'cultural richness'. The restaurant began its culinary journey in 2018 in Aldridge in the Midlands and currently has 15 stores across the UK.


Another addition to the popular chain has recently opened just a few weeks ago in Coventry City Centre and is already receiving rave reviews. Afrikana's vision is to bring 'authentic home-cooked African-inspired' dishes to the main high street and incorporate them into dishes that will be 'most loved' by customers.


Afrikana says it will offer a wide variety of food from hanging kebabs to grilled chicken, burgers, and curries, including vegan and vegetarian options. Specials will include Jerk Fried Chicken and plantain, slow-cooked Curry Goat, Jammin' Jambalaya, Island Fish and Chips, Bunny Chow, and tender French trim lamb chops all infused with African-inspired seasoning and flavours.

Both chairs are keen to prioritise making hospitality a viable and desirable career. Nicola explains: “Many senior managers working in hotels and venues found their career almost by accident. However, hospitality is a truly rewarding career and there are many benefits and unexpected rewards as well as a multitude of opportunities for growth, career development and travel. Emma and I are really excited to share our experiences of working in the hospitality sector.”
