New Industry-First Motors & Controls Training Course Launched By Deckpro Pumps And BMS Electrical Training
In an industry where the disconnect between pump mechanics and electrical controls forces teams to go back and forth between subcontractors, causing costly delays and prolonged downtime, Deckpro Pumps has partnered with BMS Electrical Training to introduce a game-changing solution. The newly launched Motors & Controls Training Course is the first of its kind, designed specifically to equip engineers, maintenance professionals, and facilities managers with the knowledge to diagnose faults more effectively, reduce downtime, and improve system efficiency – handing the control back to the teams onsite.
Launching in April 2025, the course has already been trialled by Deckpro’s own engineers, who have given it their seal of approval. It offers a mix of practical and theoretical training, covering essential topics such as motor types and their applications, BMS control strategies, fault diagnosis, and interpreting panel drawings. The City & Guilds certification is pending, and early sign-ups will receive backdated certification once approved.
The course syllabus includes:
• Types of motors, their common applications, and BMS control strategies • Components of a typical BMS panel • Introduction to Star/Delta starting • Interpreting motor nameplate data • Correct motor termination procedures • Calculating overloads and current • Variable Speed Drives (VFDs) and Softstarts: Applications and Operation • Energizing and programming a VFD • Understanding motor-related panel drawings • Relays and contactors: Function and Connection • Typical field devices used with motors • Fault finding procedures for motor circuits • Diagnosing faulty motors, including testing procedures

Bridging The Knowledge Gap In The Industry “One of the biggest challenges in the industry is the disconnect between mechanical pump knowledge and electrical control systems,” says Joe Smith, Operations Manager at Deckpro Pumps, who played a pivotal role in developing the course. “This course provides engineers with the missing link, enabling them to troubleshoot problems faster and more effectively. I’ve been speaking with our clients, and they see immense value in this for their teams – it’s the first time anyone has removed the cloak of darkness from pump systems and controls. There’s no more blame game; managers and engineers can now diagnose issues quickly and confidently.”
