“The Learning Commons is the nucleus of student life. I love seeing students in there talking to each other, working at their own pace, and using the space in different ways. It makes me proud to see what Palmer is creating for our students.”

—Dan Weinert, D.C., Ph.D. (`96), provost

interactive materials. And they’re working and learning together.” Even details that might seem small matter. Classrooms need outlets

because students rely on their devices throughout the day. Comfortable seating matters when students spend hours learning. Good lighting and access to daylight help create spaces where people actually want to be. “These are the little things that say we care,” Dr. Weinert says. “We’re understanding where a student is and responding to that. All those add up to making Palmer a place where students know they belong.” Dr. Lewis sees the same principle at work in Florida. “When the newest building at Palmer was designed, leadership at Palmer Florida met with student groups to thoughtfully plan what the empty space should become,” she says. “Students, faculty, and other stakeholders were given a voice. Their feedback, along with usage data from educational technology, is helping determine what comes next.” What’s next includes more collaboration areas, study spaces, and a state-of-the-art chiropractic technique teaching space. The same philosophy is visible in Palmer Chiropractic Clinics, where learning, patient care, and mentorship intersect, says Tara Schultz, M.B.A., executive director of clinic operations. In Iowa, an 18-month clinic remodel is underway, and will create larger

areas for collaboration, dedicated spaces for care and learning, and an environment designed around students, patients, and faculty. The project is part of a larger, ongoing effort to ensure Palmer’s physical spaces evolve alongside the profession. “The Clinic is where Palmer’s mission coalesces,” Schultz says.

“Because it’s designed around collaboration and learning, you get a natural feeling of belonging and community there. That’s true for students and patients alike. Whether they’re in Iowa or Florida, patients know they’re in a Palmer clinic because they feel welcomed, heard, and that they’re getting the best possible care.”

“The Building 2 lobby has this great buzz to it. Students are constantly coming through, meeting up, and sitting together between classes. I often run into people there unexpectedly. Those unplanned moments of connection are what make it feel special.”

—Joy Lewis, Ed.D., M.S., dean of academic affairs

“Other than the clinics (I’m biased), I love the spaces that invite us to pause and reflect, whether it’s the pond in Port Orange or the fountain in Davenport. They give you a moment to slow down, appreciate where you are, and feel grateful.”

—Tara Schulz, executive director of clinic operations
