Aviation has always stressed the customer experience, safety and efficiency. These are at the core of good business. And now, a new global element has been added to the mix – environmental responsibility. Increasingly, airports, airlines and others in aviation are looking for ways to reduce impacts to the environment. JBT, as a significant player in the world of aviation, continues to unveil new products to help keep air transport ‘green’.

ew things help reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions like minimising the use of the aircraft APU. Not only does this help the environment, but it saves airlines millions of dollars annually. JBT, for decades, has been supplying preconditioned air units and ground power units (GPU) that provide the air and power needed by parked aircraft, but do so much more efficiently than the APU. The JetAire and Jetpower products from JBT have literally saved millions of tonnes of emissions from being spewed into the atmosphere by unnecessary APU use.


Diesel-powered ground support equipment (GSE) is another source of GHG on the ramp. Here too, JBT has led the way in the development of alternative power options to replace diesel engines. Using lithium ion or lead-acid batteries, JBT has developed a line of eco-friendly electric vehicles for use on the tarmac during aircraft turns. To date, JBT supplies all-electric Commander Loaders, cargo transporters, passenger steps and the LEKTRO line of electric tow tractors, each of which helps reduce the carbon footprint at airports and cargo transfer hubs around the world.


Easy green


Having the right electric vehicles to reduce GHG production is only part of the answer to an improved environment.
