Innovation that serves comfort: ACTIU’s A+S Work chair revolutionises office seating with dual tilting systems
A+S WORK is Actiu’s latest innovative development in professional chairs. It combines two tilting systems that already exist on the market into one chair, using the Spanish manufacturer’s patented syncro mechanism for the first time. A+S Work, which has just been awarded a German Design Award in the Office Furniture category, is designed by Alegre Design, which has applied the utmost care and strict international standards to increase the diversity of people who can use it.
“Te A+S Work chair has put us to the test regarding innovation, which is why the new technological platform has been registered as an industrial model. It is a product that supports maximum comfort and reliability, with the highest safety and ergonomic features,” says Soledat Berbegal, Actiu’s director and brand reputation manager.
“Tis chair, and the new platform created for it, is the result of the last 20 years of Actiu manufacturing professional chairs. In line with the brand’s circular economy philosophy, thermoplastics were chosen for all the product’s parts: the backrest, seat, swivel base, armrests and the different accessories offered by the new chair. Tis extends the life cycle of A+S Work, whose parts can be replaced. After many years of use, all the components can be
recycled,” says the designer, Marcelo Alegre.
In that sense, the entire design and manufacturing process responds to a strict circular economy principle. Actiu also developed an in-depth study on packaging to achieve the greatest possible compactness and minimise the space the chair occupies during the entire transport process.
Space savers
Tanks to its lightness and minimalistic style, it can fit in all kinds of spaces, from corporate to home offices, and even in other spaces equipped for work. It is an agile and versatile solution that boosts the flow between different environments. Tis innovative synchro mechanism can limit backrest angle movement into four positions, which also allows them to be locked, all with a single knob action, which is easy and simple for the user. Te seat, which has been developed to the highest ergonomic standards, is made of a thin, flexible memory foam shell that provides support for the user in any posture. Te depth-adjustable seat also enhances seating comfort and access to the mechanisms integrated into its lower section. Te regulation and adjustment levers include a grip design to facilitate the adjustment of the different features of the chair.
Due to its design and innovation, the A+S Work adapts and covers optimum ergonomic features for most users’ sizes and needs through the use of flexible and resistant technical materials, complementary accessories, and two types of 2D and 4D adjustable arms. Te biggest challenge in this project was achieving a simplicity that, through mechanical and geometric solutions, conveys to the users the feeling that the chair is part of them, from the moment they start sitting on it.
Designed with a strong user- experience approach, it also meets the highest ergonomic demands in the work environment, to take care of people’s health and make their day easier and more comfortable.
