imports rebounded to end the year, with rawhide imports rising 15.24% month-over-month to 111,977,111kg and wet blue increasing 18.92% to 25,312,136kg. Purchases from the US also surged, particularly in wet blue, which jumped nearly 70%. Despite these gains, overall market volatility persisted. Meanwhile, China’s luxury sector saw an 18-20% decline, returning to 2020 levels due to weak consumer confidence and rising overseas spending, particularly in Japan. PVH’s blacklisting amid US-China tensions added further uncertainty. China’s leather market continued its long-term contraction, with a forecasted -1.9% CAGR through 2035. Imports grew 27% in 2024, but domestic demand remained weak. Despite this, exports surged 41%, highlighting shifting market dynamics. The outlook for 2025 remains cautious, with potential recovery driven by economic stimulus.
