Argentina

The Argentine hide market faced volatility due to weak demand and fewer offers, though cow prices saw an upward trend. Cow prices rose from $0.02 to $0.13 per kg, while steer prices remained stable at $0.33 per kg as of early March. Heifer prices held steady at $0.52 per kg, supported by local tanneries focused on shoe leather production. Activity in the wet salted market remained limited.

Australia

The Australian wet blue ox market experienced downward pressure, with declining prices across all grades.

Grade A prices fell, ranging from $30 for 14-18kg pieces to $59-$60 for those over 31kg. Grade B prices also dropped, with 14-18kg pieces at $19-$20 and those over 31kg at $53-$54. Grade C saw adjustments as well, with 18-23kg pieces priced at $22-$23, while larger pieces over 31kg remained steady at $40-$41.

Bangladesh

For the period, the Bangladeshi leather industry faced challenges. The footwear sector is at a crossroads,

with non-leather footwear exports rising by 40.11% in FY25, yet facing challenges like a lack of compliant factories and investment needs. Meanwhile, the Clean Clothes Campaign has criticised major fashion brands for failing to support Bangladeshi garment workers facing criminal charges after wage protests. A new study also revealed forced and child labour in unregistered garment factories, underscoring the industry’s labour rights issues. On the global stage, Bangladesh will participate in the 19th Cairo International Leather and Shoes Fair 2025 to strengthen export ties. Despite challenges, its ready- made garment sector remains vital, generating $46.99bn in 2022-23, or 85% of total exports.
