West Fraser to indefinitely curtail High Level OSB mill in Alberta from spring of 2026

West Fraser Timber has announced it will indefinitely curtail its OSB mill in High Level, Alberta in the spring of 2026 following an orderly wind- down and consumption of the mill’s existing log supply. “Today’s decision is the result of a significant weakening of OSB demand and is expected to reduce West Fraser’s capacity by 860

million square feet (3/8-inch),” the company said. “West Fraser expects to

mitigate the impact on the approximate 190 affected employees at the site by providing work opportunities at other company operations, where available.” West Fraser also confirmed that the idling of one of its production lines at its Cordele,

Georgia OSB facility since late 2023 will continue indefinitely. The idled production line at Cordele has a capacity of 440 million square feet (3/8-inch). The most significant uses

UK Continuous Process Solutions offers steel belt training

UK-based Continuous Process Solutions has launched a new steel belt training programme designed to help manufacturers strengthen in-house capability, reduce stoppages and improve the reliability of continuous process lines.

The programme is tailored for engineering, maintenance and production teams across multiple industries including wood-based panels. It gives teams the practical knowledge needed to maintain, monitor and optimise steel belt systems

and to spot early signs of wear or misalignment before they lead to costly breakdowns. By equipping staff to

identify emerging issues and take preventative action, the programme reduces unplanned downtime, cuts reliance on emergency call outs and supports improved control of maintenance budgets. It also helps extend the life of belts and related equipment, protecting valuable capital assets and supporting smoother production flows.

Training content covers the fundamentals of steel belt types and selection, correct tracking and tensioning, effective cleaning systems, preventative maintenance techniques, inspection routines and integration with wider process operations. Sessions combine clear theoretical guidance with hands-on demonstrations, including belt inspection, cleaning procedures and tracking adjustments. The programme is delivered flexibly to suit different team
