How Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV has evolved over five decades to be a leading manufacturer and supplier of construction equipment for Europe and beyond
hen Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, there was time to reflect on how far the company had come since its foundation in Oosterhout, The Netherlands. It began in 1972 with only four employees, led by Mr Okajima, and two years after Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (HCM) was established in Japan.

Over the past five decades, and from humble beginnings, it has evolved into a successful multinational organisation, with first-class production facilities in The Netherlands. It is supported by a loyal and extensive dealer network – and some of its distributors also have a decades-long history with the Hitachi brand.
Today, with its headquarters based in Amsterdam, and offices in Italy, France and Germany, HCME employs over 500 people. Built on strong values of honesty and sincerity, respect for the environment, social consciousness and respect for others, the company focuses on delivering customer-centric solutions across Europe, parts of Africa and Israel.
Pioneering product range Hitachi produces the widest range of hydraulic excavators in the world, ranging from one-tonne minis to 800-tonne mining excavators. Every model delivers a smooth and productive performance, and is comfortable, safe and reliable. In addition to excavators, HCME also supplies wheel loaders, rigid dump trucks and other construction
equipment for special applications, such as demolition, dredging, below-ground construction and tunnelling.
The next generation of Hitachi machines is already building the future – the Zaxis-7 medium and large excavators (ranging in size from seven to 87 tonnes) and ZW-7 wheel loaders have been designed to improve profitability for owners, with exceptional fuel-efficiency and reliability, and offer unrivalled levels of comfort and safety for operators.
