SENNEBOGEN INCREASES OPERATING


WIND SPEED FOR ITS TELECRAWLERS UK dealer AGD Equipment says the increase can provide contractors with greater weather resilience, helping reduce costly downtime.


UK crane sales and rental firm AGD Equipment, which is the UK and Ireland distributor for Sennebogen and Marchetti crawler cranes, has announced a newly confirmed 20 m/s wind speed rating for Sennebogen telescopic crawler cranes. According to Robert Law, joint managing director at AGD Equipment, this is significantly above the wind speed rating of key competitors – giving Sennebogen telecrawlers a significant advantage for operators.


MAXIMISING RETURN “This is the highest permissible for any make of crawler crane,” he says, “resulting in less downtime, more productivity, and maximum return on projects.” Sennebogen’s telescopic


crawlers previously had an approved wind-speed operating limit of 14 m/s. The increase has the potential to reduce costly weather-related downtime while helping contractors meet the UK's demanding lifting standards, Law says.


"It's a game-changer for the


industry," Law told Cranes Today. "We're sure to get some good business off the back of it." The UK market, in particular,


has developed stringent requirements around lift planning, wind-speed monitoring, ground- bearing pressures and site safety. Law believes these regulations

have created an opportunity for manufacturers and rental companies that can demonstrate higher operational capability. Under UK lifting practice, appointed persons (APs) are responsible for planning every lift, including ensuring cranes operate within manufacturer-defined wind- speed limits. A higher allowable operating limit can therefore translate directly into increased uptime, AGD says. "APs will be thinking 'we'll be able to carry on working with the Sennebogen telecrawlers’ whereas with competitor cranes they won't be able to,” says Law. That's the awareness we really want to get across to people."


FINANCIAL IMPACT For contractors even a small reduction in weather delays can have a significant financial impact. Law estimates that a typical five- person construction crew and associated plant can cost between £5,000 and £10,000 per day if forced to stand idle. “We want to raise our profile and shout from the rooftops that we've got cranes that can work in much higher wind speeds than others do," Law says. AGD believes that, especially for


UK contractors facing increasing programme pressures and stricter compliance requirements, enhanced operational capability is becoming more than a technical specification; it is an opportunity to keep projects moving safely, minimise weather disruption and gain a tangible commercial advantage.

ANEMOMETER AID Alongside crane capability Law notes there is also increasing demand for verifiable wind data as part of contractual and insurance- driven risk management. AGM Equipment distributes the


SafeAid system developed by Johannesburg, South Africa- based Elec-Mech. The system provides wireless anemometer readings and records operational data for later use. This functionality helps


differentiate SafeAid for more traditional retrofit safe load indicator systems.


This data logging capability is


increasingly important in disputes over wind downtime, says Law, where contractors may seek compensation for stoppages caused by weather conditions. “SafeAid wireless anemometers track and download accurate wind speed data - giving confidence and backup customers need when it matters most, including for justifying standing claims,” he says. “All of the data goes onto USB so when you submit your claim for standing time you’ve got proof that the wind was at that speed and you had to stop.” The move to a 20 m/s wind- speed rating marks a clear step change for Sennebogen telescopic crawlers, strengthening their appeal in weather-sensitive construction environments.
