offshore cranes to date. The company is exhibiting on Stand F01. Alatas Singapore recently sent one of its senior Mitsubishi crane specialists, to replace a slewing bearing on a deck crane
(Crane 4) whilst the vessel was alongside it. A lot of time was saved by using two mobile cranes carrying out a tandem lift, which allowed Alatas to remove the crane as one complete unit, with the boom attached and without the need to first remove wire ropes, hook, and boom. The vessel is equipped with four

electrohydraulic deck cranes, made by Mitsubishi, type HDC 30.5T x 26M, with a safe working load of 30 tons at a 26-meter radius. Crane 4 had developed excessive slewing bearing wear; the axial clearance had exceeded the limit, and there was a high amount of metal wear particles in the grease. A crane slewing bearing changeout became necessary. Once the crane was removed, a laser flatness check of the crane pedestal flange was carried out, and it found the flange evenness out of tolerance by a considerable margin. This uneven flange may have contributed to the premature wear of the bearing. As an additional work scope, Alatas arranged in-situ machining and machined the flange to the required 0.3 mm out-of-flatness tolerance for this double-row ball slewing bearing.
