The fundamentals of skidding systems


are very simple: the load is placed onto skid shoes, and the skid shoes are then pushed or pulled along steel tracks using hydraulic cylinders. The simplicity of these systems is what makes them so versatile and so easy to use. They also have several


advantages for job safety: no winch lines or holdbacks are needed, the load is never freely suspended, personnel can operate the system remotely at a safe distance from the moving load, and they are designed with high friction to prevent unwanted movement. Skidding systems are only employed for horizontal movement, and they are best suited for relatively short distances; they are often a critical component of complex jobs involving several different lifting and moving modalities.
