Systems, Technology, and Expertise to Support Clean Nuclear Energy
N
AC International Inc. (NAC) is pleased to be an exhibitor at the 21s
t International Symposium on Packaging and Transportation of Radioactive
Materials (PATRAM 25). Our company’s 50+ year history in global transportation services and our ongoing development of solutions for the nuclear industry are well aligned with the theme of PATRAM 25, “Continuing growth toward future transport.”
NAC offers full-scope transportation services to relocate and manage nuclear materials globally, including cask delivery, loading, and transportation logistics. NAC also offers customer assistance with materials assessment, licensing, regulatory authorization, and hardware preparation and supply, including specialized dry transfer systems.
NAC’s transportation options cover a wide range of radioactive materials, including spent nuclear fuel (SNF), fresh High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) fuel, transuranic wastes, and mixed low-level radioactive waste. NAC-designed and NRC-licensed Type B transportation packagings are relied upon by the global nuclear industry:
NAC-LWT – Having succesfully completed more than 500 shipments over a span of 32 years, NAC’s Legal Weight Truck (LWT) Type B cask is the industry workhorse for SNF, tritium producing burnable absorber rods (TPBARs), and many types of solid and liquid wastes. NAC has obtained 76 amendments validated by more than 30 countries.
OPTIMUS® – NAC’s versatile, integrated Type B
shielding and interchangeable equipment, in a compact package. OPTIMUS®
-H is used for high-
activity contents, remote-handled transuranic (TRU) waste, and SNF. OPTIMUS®
-L is licensed for lower activity contents such as contact-handled TRU waste,

HALEU and mixed low-level radioactive waste. Both OPTIMUS designs are also licensed by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
NAC-STC – The NAC Type B Storable Transport Cask has been used for more than 20 years for safe shipment of SNF in China and is licensed for bare fuel as well as SNF in dual purpose (storage and transportation) canisters.
VOLUNTEER — NAC continues to innovate for developing industry transport needs; its newest design, Volunteer, is licensed for the transport of hardware. This packaging was reviewed and approved by the U.S. NRC in less than one year, a notable achievement for a new Type B cask design.
