ADVERTORIAL FEATURE | NUVIA

Transport Package Design & Testing: Trusted expertise from concept to delivery

With decades of experience in radioactive material transport package design and a

comprehensive testing programme, NUVIA’s Transport Package Team offers clients a proven, end-to-end solution built on a legacy stretching back to the 1940s.

AS THE NUCLEAR SPECIALIST within the VINCI Construction Group, NUVIA draws on its heritage dating to 1946 - the dawn of the nuclear era - to support industrial clients operating in sensitive and highly regulated environments. We provide full lifecycle support across nuclear energy and other sectors, including engineering, operations, and dismantling. In July 2025, our team will be presenting three papers at

the PATRAM Conference in San Antonio, Texas, showcasing our capabilities in radioactive material transport package design and testing.

Why clients trust NUVIA for RAM Transport Package solutions With over 40 years of experience in the design, manufacturing, testing and licensing of Radioactive Material (RAM) packages, our engineers bring in-depth knowledge of the IAEA’s Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material (SSR-6). We manage everything

from initial concept through to delivery of licensed packages to the customer - ensuring compliance, safety, and performance every step of the way.

Our capabilities include: ● Design of packages and ancillary equipment ● Impact, thermal, and shielding assessments ● Physical testing ● Manufacturing and supply chain management ● Factory acceptance testing and commissioning ● Licensing ● Operational support

Design expertise tailored to your needs Whether you’re starting from scratch or updating existing designs, our team can take your requirements and deliver a fully substantiated, fabrication-ready design (TRL 8). We’ve developed multiple packages to meet SSR-6

standards, including: ● Industrial Packages (IP-2 and IP-3) ● Type B(M) transport packages for UK public road, sea,

and rail movement of higher activity waste ● Type C transport packages for air transport of higher

activity waste (UK only) ● Bespoke on-site transfer and storage containers. We also offer design modifications to meet modern

standards and/or regulation updates, including 3D scanning and surveying of existing fleets to verify drawings and manufacturing information. Our team designs and substantiates handling equipment such as lifting beams, turning frames, and transport frames.

Impact analysis We assess mechanical performance of transport packages to demonstrate compliance with SSR-6 impact requirements under both Normal Conditions of Transport (NCT) and Accident Conditions of Transport (ACT). Using finite element analysis (FEA) via LS-DYNA and HyperMesh for geometric de-featuring, creating the FE mesh, and
