e are now over half-way through 2025 and there will be two things on your mind. Managing holidays and


hopefully getting one yourself and getting ready for the start of the new Foundation Training Year and Experiential Learning programme.


UCA-NI will be in contact with newly-qualified pharmacists about job vacancies, so make sure to promote your posts or locum shifts through UCA.


UCA-NI is currently focussing on the changes to the Foundation Training Year and adapting our services to support pharmacies who are welcoming trainees to the new-style FTY in 2025-26 and, also, those who are offering placements in 2026-27.


I have outlined below how UCA-NI is representing community pharmacy sector employers in developing the 2026-27 process and we are always keen to hear your views on the best way forward. It has been challenging and the stakeholder group overseeing the changes have

Community Pharmacy is still struggling with a shortage of Pharmacists and Locum Pharmacists.There are no easy solutions, but you are encouraged to use LocumOnline. As our newly-qualified Pharmacists come onto the register from August, many will register with LocumOnline. UCA-NI can also forward urgent locum requests to our wider database of Pharmacists.
