Other Important Site Data Tracking how a customer finds a facility is also important as it helps to measure the success of various marketing cam- paigns. Chart 6.10 represents 10 years of tracking this data by USG, and is broken down into five categories:

Yellow Pages
• Internet • Repeats, referrals, events • Other
Advertising in the Yellow Pages was once a viable option
for self-storage facilities. Chart 6.10 shows that in 2014, less than 1 percent of USG’s customers cited this source. Due to advances in technology, the Yellow Pages have clearly been replaced by the Internet as a marketing source.

cility; however, that began to change in 2008. For the Given the increased importance of the
Internet and email as a marketing source to attract customers, it has also shifted the dynamics of self-storage managers. No longer can they be merely efficient at renting space in person or on the phone.
