2016 Self Storage Almanac Marks
3rd Annual Collaboration Between MiniCo and SSA For years, MiniCo’s Self-Storage Almanac has been a
trusted source of research for storage professionals and investors. We are pleased to announce that for the third year, data and information within the Almanac reflects a cooperative relationship with the national Self Storage Association (SSA), which has provided content from its many research sources. This includes historical data and trends analysis from REIS, Inc. and self-storage consumer information from SSA’s recent Demand Study. Altogether, the 2016 Almanac features hundreds of collection points with metrics ranging from historical vacancy trends to state/county density of properties, and a broad depth of consumer dynamics.
SSA President & CEO, Timothy J. Dietz, noted that the
continued cooperative efforts for the Almanac is yet an- other benchmark moment for the Association. “For many years, our goal as your national trade association has been to become the preeminent provider of research to the self-storage industry, its stakeholders, investors, and analysts,” he says. “The various research tools gathered by the SSA over the past few years are paying great divi- dends for our members. We believe that the industry will benefit even more from this continued relationship with MiniCo as we reach an even greater audience.”
The 2016 Almanac includes research from the Self Stor-
age Demand Study, published in 2013, which provides insight as to who uses self-storage as well as how and why it is used. Moreover, while not reflected in the Al- manac, the 2013 Demand Study also provides data and projections for future demand. Collected with the help of Philadelphia-based National Analysts, the study helps industry professionals understand its current usage and
how it is tied to area demographic characteristics. The study offers a point of view on what drives demand, with insights on how customers use self-storage. This 2013 edition compares current data with studies conducted in previous years. For more information about the Demand Study, please visit

For years, REIS has provided updated trends and fore-
casts of rent, vacancy, and inventory for the Apartment, Office, Retail, Warehouse/Distribution, and other real es- tate sectors. Now, the company has the most up-to-date data available to the self-storage industry. Information specific to the top 50 U.S. metro areas and 279 submar- kets has been collected via the REIS/SSA program since 2011. Thousands of commercial real estate professionals at hundreds of institutions—banks, lenders, investment banks, insurance companies, brokerage firms, inves- tors, and developers—rely on REIS data to support their critical investment decisions. This tremendous research tool is now available to the self-storage community. More information can be found at

“We are proud to partner with the SSA and REIS again
for the 2016 Self-Storage Almanac, which continues to pro- vide owners and operators with the most up-to-date in- formation they need to make critical business decisions,” says MiniCo Publisher Poppy Behrens. “Now, more than ever, the Almanac remains the ‘go-to’ research source for the self-storage industry.”
