properties in this area have enjoyed signifi- cant occupancy gains over the past several years. Between the fourth quarter 2011 and the fourth quarter 2014, occupancy rates in this region improved by 6.5 percent. In 2013, self-storage occupancy rates in the Southwest grew 1.3 percent. Over the course of 2012, occupancy rates improved 1.9 percent. In 2013, self-storage occupancy increased 1.9 percent and rates grew 1.0 percent during the year 2014 in the region.
In the Southwestern
region, self-storage properties in this area have enjoyed significant occupancy gains over the past several years. Between the fourth quarter 2011 and the fourth
quarter 2014, occupancy
rates in this region improved by 7.9 percent.

reported similar trends in self-storage occupancy. In this region, occupancy rates gained 5.8 percent between 4Q 2011 and 4Q 2014. In 2012, occupan- cy rates in the West grew 2.4 percent. Occupancy increased at a slightly slow- er pace during the years that followed. Self-storage professionals in the West saw average occupancy rates grow a total of 0.9 percent in 2013 and 2.0 percent in 2014.
Impact Of Facility Size Looking at the data by facility size in Table 5.10 reveals that occupancy rates are relatively uniform at storage stores of all sizes. On average, self-storage
continued to rent up. Average occupancy figures gained 1.7 percent in 2013 and 1.9 percent in 2014 at self-storage stores in this area of the country.
