Formula Fraud On Dec. 6, Indiana’s West Lafayette police removed more than 4,000 cans of powder infant formula from a unit at a Simply Self Storage facility. Though the formula has not been tampered with, police detectives suspect it was fraudulently acquired from legitimate retailers and destined for illegal resale. They are attempting to determine who purchased the formula by tracking purchases. The case remains under investigation.


Extra Space Hosts Virtual Food Drive

Before Christmas, Denbigh, Wales, U.K.-based Lock Stock Self-Storage, which recently opened a new storage facility in Flintshire, donated 100 boxes of assorted chocolates to the Buckley Community Fridge to be distributed to the food group’s customers and bring some holiday cheer to their households.


SSAF Scholarship Winners Announced Two recipients of the 2022 to 2023 Self Storage Association Foundation (SSAF) scholarships come from Moove In Self Storage. Sarah Clark, property manager for Moove In Self Storage - Morgan Lane in York, Pa., received a $2,500 schol- arship for her fall semester at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, where she is studying to become a funeral director. Morgan Brandenburg also received a $2,500 scholarship; she is the daughter of Kelly Maas, senior property manager for Moove In Harvey Court in Glen Rock, Pa., and Moove In - Old Westminster Pike in Finksburg, Md. Brandenburg is majoring in speech language pathology and minoring in deaf studies at Towson University. John Gilliland, CEO of Moove In, joined the SSAF Board of Governors in 2015 and served as the chair in 2017. He played an integral role in the creation of the endowment fund, which today totals $6 million. He and his wife have personally contributed over $60,000 to the fund under the Gilliland Family Foundation name. To incentivize Moove In employ- ees and their family members to apply, Gilliland promised a dollar-for-dollar match of each scholarship won. Both recipients of this year’s scholarship received an additional $2,500, bringing each of their total awards to $5,000.
