MAN TO APPEAR AT CROWN COURT FOLLOWING ASSAULT THAT LEFT LEICESTER CABBIE HOSPITALISED
A man charged with numerous offences following a serious assault in Leicester will appear before Leicester Crown Court on Monday 4 October. According to the Leicester Mercury, Callum McDermott, 32, from Leicester, was charged with a number of different offences and appeared before Leices- ter Magistrates’ Court on 25 August. McDermott is charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of assault occasioning ABH to a police
officer, two counts of assault on an emergency worker, one count of section 4a racially-aggravated public order, one count of section 5 racially- aggravated public order, and one count of section 5 public order. It is understood no plea was given by McDermott during his appearance at magistrates’ court. MORE DANGEROUS ATTACKS ON CARS IN BRADFORD AS BRICK THROWN AT TAXI
The manager of a Bradford taxi firm has spoken out after a brick was hurled at a vehicle in a late-night attack. Tawheed Ghazanfar, of Barkerend Taxis, said one of his drivers was on Dick Lane, Tyersal, on Monday 23 August when the missile was launched, causing extensive damage to the car’s windscreen. The Telegraph and Argus reports that the suspect/s were said to have run off down an alley. Dash cam footage shows the incident happening. Mr Ghazanfar has previously hit out
over other attacks over the past year, mainly on Holme Wood estate. Speaking about the latest incident, Mr Ghazanfar said: “A lot of the drivers are scared to go in that area. The driver will be off the road for two-three days, it’s not really on. It worries the drivers a lot, but what can they do? That’s their job.” Mr Ghazanfar added: “Obviously there’s a lot of good people living in Tyersal and Holme Wood, it’s unfair if you stop sending taxis. “Police should patrol more, they should drive around more.”
MAN CHARGED WITH WOUNDING AFTER CABBIE STABBED IN SOLIHULL
A man has appeared in court charged with wounding after a PHV driver was stabbed in Solihull town centre. Malachi McNamara, from Erdington, Birmingham, is accused of stabbing the cabbie on August 22. McNamara was charged with wound- ing, possession of a knife and criminal damage at Birmingham Magistrates’ court on Wednesday September 22. The driver was stabbed after his car windows were smashed during a row
74 in Solihull.
He had been parked outside the busy strip of bars and restaurants in Station Road when a row broke out between the driver and a couple. The driver, aged in his 30s, told the man and woman that the PHV had to be booked in order to be used. His car windows were smashed during the incident and the driver was stabbed in the arm. He was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Emergency services attended the incident after reports that a 44-year-old taxi driver, was kicked in the head “a number of times” after stop- ping due to a man standing in the road. He remained undergoing treatment for serious head injuries. A police officer who attended the scene was also attacked and sustained facial injuries. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
CABBIE ATTACKED IN BIRKENHEAD
Two men have been have been arrested after a taxi driver was attacked in Birkenhead. The Wirral Globe reports that at around 4.55am on Monday 20 September, police received a report that two male passengers had assaulted a taxi driver on Ball’s Road. It’s reported that the men punched and spat at the victim, following a dispute over the route, then made off on foot. Patrols attended and quickly detained the two males on Cole Street. During arrest, one of the men assaulted the arresting officer and directed a homophobic slur towards him. One of the males was also found to be in possession of suspected cannabis. The two men from Birkenhead, aged 27 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of common assault. The 27-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, a Section 4A public order offence and possession of a Class B drug. Both men were taken into custody and questioned by offices. They have now been released under investigation. Det Insp Michael Fletcher said: “To assault someone in this manner simply for doing their job is utterly disgraceful and simply will not be tolerated here on Merseyside.”
