LUTON CABBIE SADLY KILLED IN CRASH INVOLVING CAR TRAVELLING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION

A Luton private hire driver who died in an accident involving a car driving the wrong way has been named. Waheed Khan died in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday, September 11. According to BedfordshireLive, at around 11.30pm a grey Toyota Prius and a silver Ford Mondeo collided on the A505. It’s believed that the Mondeo may have been travelling in the wrong direction on the Luton to Hitchin carriageway. Mr Khan worked for many years as a private hire driver for Spearhead Cars in Luton, Beds. The firm has since set up a GoFundMe to take the “financial burden off his family during this heart- breaking time”. They said on the page: “It is with a heavy heart to hear the news that one

of our drivers sadly passed away in a horrific car acci- dent. "Waheed Khan was a lovely, kind man who was adored by many. He was well known to mosques around Luton and would always give his time to talk to anyone he bumped into.” They added: “We would like to thank you for reading this and any donations would be greatly appreciated by us all. We offer our deepest condolences to all of his family and friends.”

The fundraiser has raised £4,650. You can donate to it by clicking below. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward to help piece together what happened. Sgt Tim Davies, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw or has dash cam footage of this incident or the events leading up to it. In particular, anyone who saw the Ford which was reportedly travelling in the wrong direction on the carriageway.” PHTM extends our condolences to the family, and colleagues of Mr Khan.

BRITISH TCABBIE, WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN TRAGICALLY KILLED IN BLAST AT AFGHANISTAN’S KABUL AIRPORT

Mohammad Niazi, a British taxi driver and his wife and two of their four children have been tragically killed in the blast at Afghanistan’s Kabul airport The 29-year-old taxi driver travelled to Kabul on Tuesday 21 August to bring his family to safety in the UK. His wife and two daughters, both under ten, were killed in the suicide bombing. Their two-year-old son and another daughter are being treated in hospital for their injuries. Mr Niazi’s wife had been in the process of completing her UK visa application. His friend, Imran Naizi, who shared a home with Mohammad, and took him to the airport to catch his flight told Sky news that Mohammad was “des- perate” to help his family and believed he was “one of the lucky ones” when he managed to get a ticket to fly out.

“He was that excited to help bring his family home. “He was very, very desperate. To be that desperate to travel to Azerbaijan, then from Azerbaijan to Kabul - it’s almost three to four days’ journey. “You can imagine, to go past all those Taliban checkpoints, you can tell how desperate he was.” “My heart is in pieces, there’s no words,” he said.

“His car is parked outside my door, his bedroom is opposite the living room, we see his things everyday, everything reminds us of him. We don’t know how to get over it. “We’ve known each other for 14 years. He was like my brother rather than my friend.” “He worked 16 or 17 hours a day as a taxi driver to give them a better life. He was so happy whenever he saved up to buy new clothes and toys. Everything was for the benefit of his kids to give them the best life ever.” The suicide bombing was carried out by Islamic State offshoot ISIS-K and killed between 79 and 169 Afghans, 13 US military personnel, and two Britons on Thursday. PHTM extends our sympathy to the friends and work colleagues of Mohammad Niazi.
